Founding director of Mae and Pearl is an Australian fresh fashion designer Naomi Swalwell.
After graduating from East Sydney Tafe in 2002 Naomi relocated to the hinterland of Byron bay where there was a great depth of exploration of textiles and the printed cloth. Naomi then quickly became involved in the local community and set up shop in the quaint town of Bangalow. This saw clients like Linda Kioswoski as a very influential customer helping the brand grow and develop by designing cocktail dress and made to order collections for individual customers. This then led to more interest from retailers in Sydney and Newcastle stocking the label exclusively.
In 2006 Naomi moved back to Sydney to become one of the founding directors of The Graduate Store located in the Strand Arcade. The business was slowly built up with 5 other designers all recognised in the Australian Fashion Industry as ones to watch.
After 12 months with such an exciting group of young designer Naomi worked for one of the biggest every day brands in Australia being Bonds. Working in such a large corporate design team really strengthened the understanding of commerciability and integrity in a product. The experience gained in working in Womens clothing and Kids underwear has proved to be invaluable experience that is utilized in Mae and Pearl.
Naomi Swalwell now directs and designs newely founded label Mae & Pearl in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, focusing on delivering beautiful collections of 100% Australian made garments using all natural bases fused with new prints each season.
